Mountain Rwenzori National Park
This protected area is located in the Rwenzori mountains also referred to as the “Mountains of the Moon” and is the most iconic hiking destination in Uganda. It’s a world UNESCO heritage site located at the border between Uganda and DR Congo. It offers different treks or hikes. These range from short hikes to multi-day treks to Margherita Peak, the third-highest peak in Africa standing at 5109 meters above sea level.
Trekking the Rwenzori Mountains is not like any other hike in Uganda since it covers different aspects ranging from the cultural experience of the Bakonzo people through unique plants, Crater lakes, and waterfalls to the snow-capped Margherita peak. Mount Muhabura
Mount Muhabura is also located in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. On a clear day, it offers a panoramic view of the Virunga Mountains and the Rwenzori Mountains. Hiking Mount Muhabura also gives you a chance to spot gorillas on a lucky day. Birds and plants can be seen while hiking these mountains, and the trek complete circuit takes about a day.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
This is the most iconic gorilla destination in Africa since it is home to almost half of the remaining mountain gorillas.
